Celebrate the visual and performing arts in Downtown Arcata during 2nd Friday Arts! Arcata August 12th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. We want to Welcome all our community members to come out and visit with us for a lively night market of local art displayed in our downtown stores. As an additional bonus, this month the center of the plaza will be converted into a beer garden and will feature music from the local band Los Amantes del Mañana. We will also be featuring a variety of nonprofit informational tables.

This month will feature a collection of paintings curated and created by Ninfa and Kailin Mottershead, mother and daughter. Both women call Humboldt home, with their deepest roots founded in their Columbian heritage and passion for color and texture. View the art while listening to the sounds of Stan Fleming, Jr. on Saxaphone from 4-7p. Then, Arts! Arcata participants are being welcomed back for another DIVA Burlesque Arcata, a Circus themed show! Running through September will be a photographic tribute to the wonder of nature from artists Leslie Scopes Anderson and Mike Anderson. Both artists hope that “their photography fosters an awareness of love for the irreplaceable majesty of nature”.

Goldylocks will be spinning records, Flor d’ Luna will be pouring wine and Joyce Jonte and the Redwood Model Collective will be doing live models/sketching with a $10 suggested donation. William Kauffman will also have some wooden arts and crafts.

The Jam will be closed until 10pm for a private event but encourages Arts! Arcata participants stop by to end their evening with some awesome DJ’s.

The Sanctuary will be hosting an artist reception, from 6-9p, for Meredith Smith and her collection of art on display through the end of August, titled “Body Language”. There will be food by the Brunch Passion Food Truck. More information can be found at sanctuaryarcata.org
