DESCRIPTION:Arcata\, CA– Humboldt Asians & Pacific Islanders in Solidarity (HAPI) invites the community to the first Obon Festival to be held in Humboldt County\, on Sunday\, August 14\, 4-8 PM\, in front of the Arcata Playhouse\, 1251 9th Street\, Arcata. \n  \nObon is a Japanese Buddhist custom to honor the spirits of one’s ancestors. The band promises to deliver a\nrange of musical flavors with a repertoire of original tunes and rock standards. Composed of legendary\nlocal musical veterans\, Joyce Hough\, Gary Davidson\, Fred Neighbor\, and Mike Labolle\, Home Cookin’\nserves up savory musical entrees with a saucy backbeat.\nTickets are $15 and will benefit the upcoming October 1st Migrations event created and coordinated by\nRound Story\, a project of Playhouse Arts.\nThis is a COVID safe event – attendees are required to wear masks and show proof of vaccination.

DESCRIPTION:Arcata Main Street is excited to confirm that the 32nd Arcata Bay Oyster Festival is happening June 23-25\, 2022. After two years in a virtual or modified format\, we are ready to announce a return of many favorite Oyster Festival elements. While it’s smaller than it has been in the past\, and designed with resiliency and flexibility in mind\, Oyster Festival: Unleashed will showcase  oysters\, locally made food and beverages\, and music filling the air! \nThis years’ event is a three day celebration of aquaculture\, local beverages\, and culinary artistry in Humboldt County! \nBest Oysters? Yes! Local chefs are now being invited to sign up for the prestigious Best Oyster Contest. Chefs will bring their best oysters Thursday\, June 23 to the Inn at 2nd & C in Eureka and to Septentrio Winery in Arcata. Categories for 2022 will be: Best Cold Oyster\, Best Hot Oyster\, Most Creative\, and the Dave Griswald Award for Best Overall Oyster. \nFriday\, June 24 will feature an evening Kick-off Event under the Big Top Tent in the Creamery Field in Arcata with oysters\, beverages\, presentations\, an expo of local and regional food products and the announcements of the winners from the Best Oyster Contest. Admission is $20 for this event. \nSaturday\, June 25 will feature a full day of music\, food vendors\, beer\, wine\, and local artists from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in a fun festival at the Creamery Field\, just a few blocks from downtown Arcata. Saturday Admission is $15 (includes a cup). Kids under 12 are free. Popular community contests will return\, and all will be live-streamed via the Arcata Main Street YouTube channel. \nAs Arcata Main Street’s largest fundraiser\, Oyster Festival helps us fulfill our mission to promote a vibrant downtown Arcata for our businesses and community.
