Arcata, CA– Humboldt Asians & Pacific Islanders in Solidarity (HAPI) invites the community to the first Obon Festival to be held in Humboldt County, on Sunday, August 14, 4-8 PM, in front of the Arcata Playhouse, 1251 9th Street, Arcata.

Obon is a Japanese Buddhist custom to honor the spirits of one’s ancestors. There will be a Buddhist priest to bless the Festival and share the stories and traditions of Obon, an altar to honor our ancestors, food vendors (Asian and Pacific Islander cuisine), children’s activities, music, Bon Dancing, and more.  HAPI is grateful to the many community volunteers helping to organize this event; others who would like to help should email HAPI at hapi.humboldt@gmail.com.

HAPI is requesting donations for the festival; visit https://gofund.me/1bcd16ca, and is grateful for the sponsorship of the Humboldt Area Foundation and Wild Rivers Community Foundation.
