Local Resiliency Stories

Ingenuity and resourcefulness is something we’re known for in Humboldt County, and the COVID-19 pandemic has brought the Arcata community together in unexpected ways. Here are some of their stories!

Since 1981, Holly Yashi has been making high quality, handcrafted artisan jewelry at their Redwood Coast design studio in Arcata. When the corona virus pandemic hit, the Holly Yashi team began producing face shields to stop the spread of the corona virus in the community.

Since 2015, Alchemy Distillery has been making whiskeys and other spirits from ingredients sourced close to its home on South G Street. When the Arcata community started sheltering in place in March, Alchemy Distillery shifted their production to hand sanitizer to combat shortages and meet the need of public agencies/service providers in the community.
